spot on with BVSC

We’ve just written, edited and designed an annual report and a membership marketing leaflet for BVSC, the Centre for Voluntary Action, and colourful spots are definitely in!

When BVSC asked us to look at their Annual Report this year we suggested a less detailed approach that concentrated on key strategic goals and achievements to give a real insight into what BVSC does. We had already been helping BVSC define what it does from a customer and user perspective so this enabled us to structure the report to communicate their work very clearly.

By editing BVSC’s own words and also researching and writing new material, Brian Homer created a style suited to all of their diverse audiences. At the same time he kept it short and to the point so that there could be a strong balance between the text and the images. A third element involved pulling out key messages to highlight for each area of work.

For the design Sue Race says, “We wanted to keep it simple and striking, so we took the idea of individuals working as a group and then added bright colours and strong photography. The idea was to have something different happen on each two-page spread so that the effect was a kind of story telling progression: the story of BVSC’s year. The Damien Hirst-like spots on the cover were a natural development of the colours and the idea of individuals and the organisation.”

In parallel with this we were asked to refine the new Membership offer for BVSC and create a publicity and information piece, and this is connected by design style to the report. However we’ve made stronger use of corporate colours so that the single entity of BVSC is fore-grounded. And we’re very happy with how it’s turned out.

Both documents have proved a great success. And the clear structure made the design process more straightforward, so we were able to save the client time and money.
