three college designs hit their target audience.

Last autumn we were delighted to work with three of our education clients to extend and adapt previous designs from Homer that have been working for them. These three solutions demonstrate some of the different approaches to education marketing that we can achieve for you.

After their new web site went live, Joseph Chamberlain College’s 2010 Prospectus needed to fully reflect the new design style, this design now gives their main marketing and information tools complete coherence.

It uses many of the elements from last year including some of the same colour scheme to match the web site. As JCC focus on the college experience, the prospectus includes feedback from students who have left this year and moved on to higher education as well as from the Queen’s award and Ofsted Reports. This, along with action photography of students at work in the college surroundings, conveys the feel of the college experience and a sense of progression for the students.

And to enhance that, this year we added some new, warm colours to the mix including a really delicious gold and the team came up with a theme of growth and learning to hang it all on. This includes stylized icons, based on shapes found in nature, to point up the different sections of the document. While there is some course information, the effect is much more about the quality, in all senses of the word, of the JCC experience. And we think that’s a very persuasive mix.

New College, Telford take a slightly different approach. They wanted to keep the main elements of their previous design while still showing some change and progression and focussing very much on the course information. So we’ve provided a clear, very functional design to which we’ve added some full-page photos for impact and colour coding for ease of navigation. This prospectus very usefully also carries an application form at the back of the document so it has proved a very immediate tool for the college.

Following the very funky prospectus that we produced for South Sandwell Consortium the previous year the need last year was to work with a trimmed down budget and create the same splash. So we went for a fold out publicity leaflet, using elements from the previous design, that points prospective students to their web site for all the information they might need. Again we provided some new photography using very relaxed portrait shots of students to warm and personalise the distinctive red, black and white design.

So there you have it. Different approaches and different uses for the marketing materials. And three happy customers. Whatever your need and budget we can help and advise. We would love to put our education marketing savvy to work for your school or college, from the photography, through collecting and editing student quotes, to of course up to the minute design and all our textual and form design skills.
