Twenty award-winning years for R2L

Homer Creative were commissioned by UNISON - one of Europe's largest unions - to create a special booklet to celebrate and illustrate the power of their award-winning flagship education course Return To Learn.

Return to Learn or R2L, was 20 years old in 2008. For the last 16 years Homer Creative has been heavily involved with marketing and advertising R2L, with extensive experience in promoting education initiatives and producing striking people-focused solutions. So we were the natural choice to write, edit and design this commemorative booklet.

The booklet consists of photographs of learners taken over the years, together with quotes about how R2L has benefited them in their career and outside the workplace. The use of simple, clear design and typography focuses on students and their thoughts to emphasise R2L's main priorities - opportunity, personal development and recognition for UNISON members.

R2L was originally developed with the aim of bringing high quality development opportunities to low-paid staff in the Public Sector. The course was taken up in increasing numbers and really took off in the mid-90s when UNISON began negotiating ground-breaking agreements which allowed members to take paid release for study with employers covering the costs of courses. Today thousands of members each year do R2L and other workplace learning programmes brokered by UNISON. We are proud to be part of an initiative that has helped thousands of people improve their opportunities at work and beyond.
